Nonablative Resurfacing: Reading the Technology Description

Nonablative resurfacing is a technology description, not a promise about a particular result or recovery time. For Secret DUO, the manufacturer identifies a 1540 nm erbium-glass fractional laser. That detail helps distinguish the proposed treatment from other resurfacing methods.

What to know

  • Secret DUO's laser is 1540 nm and nonablative.
  • Check whether laser alone or a combination is proposed.
  • Use a care plan matched to the actual procedure.

Cutera Secret DUO

Secret DUO combines RF microneedling and a 1540 nm erbium-glass fractional nonablative laser in one platform. The two handpieces are distinct, and your provider explains which component is being considered.

Secret DUO does not use a CO₂ laser. Device information does not establish personal suitability or a treatment plan.

Identify the exact technology

Cutera describes the Secret DUO laser as nonablative and fractional. It is separate from the system's RF microneedling handpiece and it is not a CO2 laser. When reading a treatment page, check whether the text, illustration and video all refer to the same component.

The manufacturer lists soft-tissue coagulation and skin resurfacing among the laser's intended uses. Those statements describe the device. They do not mean that every concern involving scars, pigment or visible aging will respond in the same way, or that every person is a suitable candidate.

Turn a broad resurfacing request into a discussion

Explain which feature you want assessed and why it matters to you. A request about rough-looking texture can be different from a request about a particular scar or line. Ask the provider to identify the goal of the proposed treatment and explain what it may leave unchanged.

Also ask whether the plan involves the laser alone or another modality. Combining names in a promotional package does not explain why each component is necessary. You should be able to describe the planned method and area in ordinary language before deciding whether to proceed.

Keep preparation and recovery individualized

Ask how your history, current skin condition and other procedures affect the discussion. The manufacturer lists risks including discomfort, redness, swelling and pigment changes. Your clinician should explain the complete relevant safety information rather than relying on the word nonablative as reassurance that there is no risk.

Obtain written instructions for the actual procedure instead of adopting a routine from an ablative laser account or an RF microneedling video. This guide does not provide settings, treatment intervals or product restart dates. Its purpose is to make the technology understandable enough for a more focused consultation and informed questions.
