— Overview —

What It Is

Focused shockwave therapy is a non-invasive treatment that uses acoustic pressure waves — brief, high-energy sound pulses produced by a handheld applicator and transmitted into the tissue through a conductive gel. The applicator focuses those pulses so the energy concentrates at a set depth below the surface rather than dispersing across it.

Three parameters govern every session: depth, intensity, and pulse frequency. Your provider sets each one at the start and adjusts them as the session proceeds. Nothing is delivered until your provider has reviewed your health history and confirmed that you are a candidate.

Sessions are delivered under physician supervision at our Chicago Loop practice, alongside muscle sculpting in our Body & Wellness category. Every plan begins with a complimentary consultation.

— The Experience —

How It Works

  1. 01

    Consultation & Candidacy

Your provider reviews your health history, confirms candidacy, and sets the parameters for your sessions.

  2. 02

    Mapping & Coupling Gel

The treatment area is mapped, then a conductive gel is applied so the applicator keeps contact and the waves transmit cleanly into the tissue.

  3. 03

    Calibrated Delivery

The applicator is moved across the mapped area in passes, delivering pulses at the depth, intensity, and frequency your provider has set.

  4. 04

    Series & Maintenance

Sessions are typically scheduled as a short series spaced over several weeks, with periodic maintenance sessions afterward.

— Candidacy —

Who It's For

Adults whose candidacy has been confirmed by a provider at consultation. Focused shockwave therapy is not appropriate during pregnancy, over implanted electronic devices, or alongside certain medical conditions and medications. Your provider reviews your full history before any session is scheduled.

— Aftercare & Results —

What to Expect After

Mild warmth or temporary redness at the treated area is common and usually settles within a few hours. Your provider will advise on hydration and on deferring saunas, hot tubs, and similar intense heat for a short window afterward. There is no formal downtime, and most clients return to their usual activities the same day. Individual experience varies.
