Overview

What It Is

Rosacea and chronic facial redness happen when small blood vessels near the skin's surface become visible and reactive, leaving the cheeks, nose, and central face looking flushed. IPL treatment uses intense pulsed light to target that redness and the vessels behind it, helping calm the complexion over a series of sessions. Rosacea is a chronic condition, so treatment manages it rather than eliminating it, and a consultation confirms whether IPL is right for your skin.

The Experience

How It Works

  1. The Treatment. A handpiece delivers gentle pulses of light that are absorbed by the redness and small vessels in the skin.
  2. Session Length. A session is typically completed in about 20 to 45 minutes, with minimal downtime.
  3. Comfort. Most people describe a brief warm snapping sensation during treatment.
  4. Your Plan. Treatment is usually done as a series of sessions spaced a few weeks apart; your provider will outline a plan and any maintenance at your consultation.

Managing a Chronic Condition

What Managing, Not Curing, Looks Like

The honest frame for this treatment is maintenance of a condition that does not go away. Rosacea flares with triggers, sun and heat among the common ones, and the vessels that carry the flush become more visible over time. What light treatment changes is the vessel side of that equation: the pulses are absorbed by the redness and the small vessels feeding it, so the baseline your flares start from comes down across a series.

What it does not change is the condition itself. Triggers still need managing, daily sun protection still matters, and most people who do well with IPL keep doing well because they return periodically rather than treating once and stopping. That is also why your provider talks about a plan at consultation rather than a fix.

Candidacy

Who Can Be Treated With IPL

Skin tone decides this before anything else does, because IPL relies on contrast between its targets and the surrounding skin. Fitzpatrick types one through three are the well-suited range, type four is treated cautiously with adjusted settings by an experienced provider, and types five and six are generally not treated, because the risk at that end is burns and pigment change. If IPL is not appropriate for your skin, that is said at consultation, not discovered mid-course.

Beyond tone, treatment is not performed over a tan or recent sun exposure, during pregnancy, over active infection or broken skin, or where there is skin cancer or a history of it in the area. Melasma is specifically excluded because IPL can worsen it. Bring a full medication list to your consultation: photosensitising medications change the plan, and our clinic guidance retains a waiting period after isotretinoin.

The Series

The Series, the Price, and Staying Ahead of It

Most redness plans run three to five sessions, spaced three to four weeks apart, with meaningful change often visible inside the first one to three. A single face session is listed in our booking at $225, and a three-session series is listed as IPL Face 3 Sessions at $607. The spacing is part of the treatment: real-world outcome data found that keeping regular intervals and completing the planned sessions were each independently associated with better results.

After the series, maintenance is periodic, commonly once or twice a year, timed around how your redness behaves rather than the calendar alone. Between sessions, sun protection is the one variable entirely in your hands, and it is the one your provider will keep returning to.

Redness That Needs a Different Page

Not all facial redness is rosacea, and not all of it is treated the same way. A cluster of fine surface capillaries is covered under our IPL photofacial, while a single visible facial vein is usually addressed with laser vein treatment, which targets individual vessels rather than diffuse tone. Redness and mottling below the jawline has its own page at chest and neck redness, and sun-related brown spots without redness are covered under sun spot treatment. If you are unsure which describes your skin, the consultation sorts it out, and it is complimentary with no obligation to book.

Candidacy

Who It's For

Adults with rosacea-related redness, flushing, or visible facial vessels who want a non-invasive option. IPL is well suited to fair-to-medium skin tones; a consultation confirms whether it is appropriate for your skin and rules out other causes of redness.

Aftercare & Results

What to Expect After

You can usually return to normal activities right away. Brief redness or warmth is common and settles within hours. Because rosacea can be triggered by sun, heat, and other factors, daily sun protection and your provider's guidance help maintain results.

Questions, Answered

No. Rosacea is a chronic condition, so IPL helps manage and reduce redness rather than eliminate it. Many people maintain results with periodic sessions.
Most people benefit from a series of sessions spaced a few weeks apart, with maintenance over time. Your provider will recommend a plan.
Minimal. Brief redness or warmth usually settles within hours.
IPL is well suited to fair-to-medium skin tones. If it is not appropriate for your skin, your provider can discuss other options at your consultation.
Real-world outcome data found that keeping regular treatment intervals and completing the planned number of sessions were each independently associated with better results. The interval is part of the treatment, not padding between appointments.
A discrete visible vessel is treated differently from diffuse redness: laser vein treatment targets individual vessels, while IPL addresses overall tone. Your provider identifies which applies at consultation.
